Night and Mouth Guards for Clenching & Grinding
Many people suffer from clenching and grinding problems because their teeth do not align correctly. This poses a serious threat to not only the teeth and jaw, but puts unnecessary stress on muscles in the head, neck, face, and back. When these muscles are put under stress they can cause migraines, headaches, neck pain, and facial asymmetry. We’ll help reduce clenching and grinding with a custom made mouthguard.
A custom nightguard offers an effective solution for protecting your teeth from the damaging effects of teeth grinding (bruxism) and clenching while you sleep. Our practice provides high-quality, custom-fitted nightguards tailored to your specific needs, ensuring optimal comfort and protection.

After completing his bachelor’s degree at the University of Rhode Island, Dr. Leonetti attended the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in New Jersey and went on to complete his General Practice Residency at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine in Manhattan, New York. He joined us at the Tribeca location in 2016 and has expanded with us to the SoHo Dental Group.
Continuing Education
Dr. Leonetti performs various types of general dentistry for patients of all ages including restorative and preventative care, root canal therapy, Invisalign orthodontics, and gum surgery.
In his studies at the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine, he focused on cosmetic procedures and implant dentistry. To provide treatment for an underserved population, he traveled to Managua, Nicaragua, in 2017 to provide dental implants to patients who had often lost many teeth due to a lack of proper dental care.
Dr. Leonetti continues to advance his skills every year so he can provide his patients with impeccable care, an activity he is passionate about.

Keep reading to learn more about his background and education.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Throughout college, Dr. Ruhrkraut had been interested in the field of medicine until he decided to switch gears and focus more on dentistry. This was due to his participation in a mission trip to Honduras in 2011, where he assisted a dentist there and resumed shadowing him back in the United States. After learning much more about the wonderful opportunities that dentistry offered while also helping to improve a patient’s overall quality of life, he set himself to pursue a life as a dentist!
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Ruhrkraut attended The Ohio State University for his bachelor’s degree before studying at their College of Dentistry to earn his dental doctorate. Throughout his years as a general dentist, he’s enjoyed the flexibility it’s given him to provide a holistic plan and various treatments to his patients. He’s worked in multiple offices in New York City and Los Angeles, and he’s gained extensive knowledge and skills in multiple types of services, including root canals, crowns and bridges, dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, and Invisalign. He also regularly seeks continuing education to remain on top of the latest advancements in dentistry, and he’s also an active member of the American Dental Association and New York Dental Association.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Aside from treating pearly whites, Dr. Ruhrkraut loves to return to his hometown of Cleveland, OH to visit his parents and loved ones several times a year whenever he gets the chance. Away from the office, he enjoys cooking, reading, watching movies, playing volleyball, and traveling. One fun fact about him: he’s an Eagle Scout and received the Triple Crown Award after canoeing, hiking, camping, and sailing in three national high adventure programs.

About Custom Nightguards in NYC
What is a Custom Nightguard?
A custom nightguard is a dental device designed to be worn over your teeth while you sleep to prevent grinding and clenching. Unlike over-the-counter options, custom nightguards are made from precise impressions of your teeth, providing a perfect fit that ensures maximum effectiveness and comfort.
Benefits of Custom Nightguards
- Protects Teeth from Damage: Custom nightguards prevent enamel wear, tooth fractures, and other damage caused by grinding and clenching.
- Reduces Jaw Pain: Wearing a nightguard can alleviate the discomfort and pain associated with TMJ disorders and muscle tension.
- Improves Sleep Quality: By reducing the effects of bruxism, a custom nightguard can help you achieve a more restful sleep.
- Long-Lasting Durability: Custom nightguards are made from high-quality materials designed to withstand nightly use and last for several years.
- Comfortable Fit: Tailored specifically to your mouth, custom nightguards offer a comfortable and secure fit, ensuring you can sleep without discomfort.
How to Get a Custom Nightguard in NYC
The process of getting a custom nightguard at our practice in NYC is simple and efficient:
- Consultation and Examination: During your initial visit, we will evaluate your teeth and discuss your symptoms to determine if a custom nightguard is the right solution for you.
- Taking Impressions: We take precise impressions of your teeth to create a mold for your custom nightguard.
- Fabrication: Your custom nightguard is fabricated using high-quality materials based on the impressions of your teeth.
- Fitting and Adjustment: Once your nightguard is ready, you will return for a fitting. We will make any necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.
Custom Nightguards vs. Over-the-Counter Options
Patients in NYC often wonder about the differences between custom nightguards and over-the-counter nightguards. Here are some key advantages of choosing a custom nightguard:
- Custom Fit: Custom nightguards are specifically made to fit your teeth, providing superior comfort and effectiveness.
- Durability: Made from high-quality materials, custom nightguards last longer and provide better protection than store-bought options.
- Personalized Care: With a custom nightguard, you receive personalized care and adjustments to ensure the best possible fit and function.
Dental Mouthguards for Sports
In addition to nightguards, we also offer custom dental mouthguards for sports. These mouthguards are designed to protect your teeth and gums from injury during physical activities. Just like custom nightguards, our sports mouthguards are made from precise impressions of your teeth, ensuring a comfortable and secure fit.
