Dr. Anthony Leonetti

Dentist

After completing his bachelor’s degree at the University of Rhode Island, Dr. Leonetti attended the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in New Jersey and went on to complete his General Practice Residency at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine in Manhattan, New York. He joined us at the Tribeca location in 2016 and has expanded with us to the SoHo Dental Group.

Continuing Education

Dr. Leonetti performs various types of general dentistry for patients of all ages including restorative and preventative care, root canal therapy, Invisalign orthodontics, and gum surgery.

In his studies at the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine, he focused on cosmetic procedures and implant dentistry. To provide treatment for an underserved population, he traveled to Managua, Nicaragua, in 2017 to provide dental implants to patients who had often lost many teeth due to a lack of proper dental care.

Dr. Leonetti continues to advance his skills every year so he can provide his patients with impeccable care, an activity he is passionate about.

Outside of the Office

When he’s not caring for patients, he enjoys golfing, skiing, and cooking.

She completed her bachelor’s degree at Villanova University and then obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She gained experience in a variety of dental specialties at the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine in Manhattan, focusing on cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, root canal therapy, and invisible braces.

Dr. Nicholas Ruhrkraut

Dentist

With a decade of experience and counting, Dr. Nicholas Ruhrkraut brings warmth and joy to the dental field that our patients can truly appreciate. Not only does he enjoy the opportunity to connect with others daily while educating them on the importance of their oral health, but he also loves helping people gain confidence through a healthier and more beautiful smile. Keep reading to learn more about his background and education.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Throughout college, Dr. Ruhrkraut had been interested in the field of medicine until he decided to switch gears and focus more on dentistry. This was due to his participation in a mission trip to Honduras in 2011, where he assisted a dentist there and resumed shadowing him back in the United States. After learning much more about the wonderful opportunities that dentistry offered while also helping to improve a patient’s overall quality of life, he set himself to pursue a life as a dentist!

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Ruhrkraut attended The Ohio State University for his bachelor’s degree before studying at their College of Dentistry to earn his dental doctorate. Throughout his years as a general dentist, he’s enjoyed the flexibility it’s given him to provide a holistic plan and various treatments to his patients. He’s worked in multiple offices in New York City and Los Angeles, and he’s gained extensive knowledge and skills in multiple types of services, including root canals, crowns and bridges, dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, and Invisalign. He also regularly seeks continuing education to remain on top of the latest advancements in dentistry, and he’s also an active member of the American Dental Association and New York Dental Association.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Aside from treating pearly whites, Dr. Ruhrkraut loves to return to his hometown of Cleveland, OH to visit his parents and loved ones several times a year whenever he gets the chance. Away from the office, he enjoys cooking, reading, watching movies, playing volleyball, and traveling. One fun fact about him: he’s an Eagle Scout and received the Triple Crown Award after canoeing, hiking, camping, and sailing in three national high adventure programs.

Additional Information About Veneers in NYC

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted from porcelain or composite resin that are designed to cover the front surface of your teeth. They are bonded to your teeth to improve their appearance, providing a natural, attractive look. Porcelain veneers in NYC are particularly popular for their durability and lifelike appearance.

How Do Veneers Work?

The process of getting veneers at our practice in NYC is straightforward and involves the following steps:

  1. Consultation and Planning: During your initial visit, we will discuss your aesthetic goals and evaluate your teeth to determine if veneers are the right option for you.
  2. Tooth Preparation: A small amount of enamel is removed from the front surface of your teeth to make room for the veneers.
  3. Impressions: We take impressions of your teeth to create a precise mold for your custom veneers.
  4. Temporary Veneers: While your permanent veneers are being crafted, temporary veneers may be placed to protect your teeth.
  5. Veneer Placement: Once your custom veneers are ready, they are carefully bonded to your teeth and adjusted for a perfect fit.

Benefits of Veneers

  • Improves Appearance: Veneers can correct a variety of cosmetic issues, including discoloration, chips, and gaps.
  • Natural-Looking Results: Porcelain veneers provide a lifelike appearance, blending seamlessly with your natural teeth.
  • Durable Solution: With proper care, veneers can last many years, providing a long-lasting improvement to your smile.
  • Stain-Resistant: Porcelain veneers are resistant to stains, helping you maintain a bright, white smile.
  • Minimal Tooth Alteration: Veneers require minimal removal of tooth enamel compared to other restorative options.

Veneers vs. Other Cosmetic Options

Patients in NYC often compare veneers with other cosmetic dental options such as bonding or crowns. While each option has its benefits, veneers offer a unique combination of aesthetic improvement and durability:

  • Veneers: Ideal for correcting multiple cosmetic issues with a natural look and long-lasting results.
  • Bonding: A less expensive option for minor repairs but not as durable as veneers.
  • Crowns: Cover the entire tooth and are better suited for teeth that are severely damaged or decayed.

Dental Veneers in NYC

Dental veneers are used by dentists to improve the appearance of a patient’s teeth and smile. Veneers in New York are custom-made to match a patient’s natural teeth and require non-invasive procedures. In addition, they provide numerous benefits and last for several years.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Dental Veneers?

Many patients wonder if veneers are the right solution for them. A consultation with a cosmetic dentistry specialist is a fantastic opportunity to discuss them and ask any questions regarding candidacy. Dentists can use veneers to fix one or multiple teeth and can address dental concerns such as:

  • Discolored teeth
  • Abnormally shaped teeth
  • Misaligned or gapped teeth
  • Crooked or cracked teeth

Types of Dental Veneers

You may first wear temporary veneers before the procedure for permanent ones. Some common types of dental veneers are:

  • Composite veneers (resin)
  • Palatal veneers
  • Porcelain veneers
  • Zirconia veneers

Porcelain Veneers

These are uniquely customized to fit with the patient’s already-established teeth. Porcelain veneers are highly durable while looking and feeling natural. Dentists customize porcelain veneers to match a patient’s unique tooth color and shape so that the results look like natural teeth.

A specialist removes a tiny amount of enamel from the patient’s teeth as the first step in the process. Then, they make an impression and decide on the preferred shade option with the patient. What the dental office sends to the lab helps craft the veneers and ensures they are ready for the next appointment.

During the next visit, the patient receives their porcelain veneers with a secure and bonded fit. The dental specialist cleans the teeth so the patient can walk out with a new and beautiful smile. Follow-ups and regular oral hygiene increase the longevity of dental veneers.

Benefits of Dental Veneers

Dental veneers offer several unique benefits, including:

  • Fast, easy, and painless procedure
  • Matches surrounding teeth in texture and style
  • Resistant against troublesome stains
  • Only need to remove a small amount of enamel for the procedure
  • Low maintenance while increasing patient confidence

Veneers are a simple way to improve and transform your smile. They are unique to you and your teeth and can dramatically improve your quality of life.

Caring for Dental Veneers

After your procedure, you should take specific steps to make your veneers last as long as possible. Brush twice a day, or more, to keep your teeth clean and decrease your risk of gum disease and bacteria. Additionally, floss in between your teeth and schedule oral exams twice a year to maintain good oral health.

How long do veneers last?

Should I be worried about my crown or veneer coming loose depending on what I eat?

Will my insurance cover the cost of this treatment?

Are Dental Veneers Permanent?

How do I properly care for my veneers?

For the most part, you can treat your new veneers just like you would treat natural teeth. This means that the most important thing to do is to continue to maintain good oral hygiene. You should brush your teeth at least twice per day for two minutes using fluoride toothpaste. You should also floss at least once per day.

While veneers themselves cannot get cavities, the teeth underneath your veneers still can, so good oral hygiene is very important for keeping your teeth healthy. You should also see Dr. Anthony Leonetti and the team at Lux Smiles for a checkup every six months. At each preventive appointment, Dr. Leonetti will clean your teeth and then examine your teeth and your veneers to make sure everything looks good.

You also may want to change some of your lifestyle habits to make sure your veneers last a long time. Smoking, for example, can contribute to veneer failure, stain your natural teeth, and cause other oral health issues. We recommend that you avoid biting into very hard foods like bagels and apples with your front teeth.

You also should never chew non-food objects like pens or pencils. Using your teeth as “tools” is also a bad idea. Don’t do things like open packages or rip tape with your veneers or your natural teeth, for that matter. This can damage or dislodge your veneers.

How long do veneers usually last?

With proper care, you can expect your veneers to last at least 10-15 years, and many patients are able to keep their veneers for 20+ years with no problems. However, your veneers will eventually wear out. After all, your veneers will go through lots of wear and tear as you eat, bite, and chew, just like natural teeth.

If your veneer feels loose, you lose a veneer, or you notice a crack or some other issue with your veneer, just give Lux Smiles a call. Dr. Leonetti can check your smile, replace your veneer, and restore your smile in just a couple of quick appointments at our dental office in NYC.

Will I experience pain when I get my veneers?

No. When you get veneers, your mouth will be numb to ensure that you don’t feel any vibration, discomfort, or pain while your teeth are being prepared. At Lux Smiles, we’re dedicated to patient comfort, and you can expect a pain-free process.

Once your teeth have been trimmed, you’ll get a set of temporary veneers that will protect your natural teeth while Dr. Leonetti is building your final set of porcelain veneers. You may feel some minor discomfort, but this should go away within a few days. Your teeth may be a bit more sensitive to heat and cold until you get your permanent veneers, though.

Once your permanent veneers are in place, you also shouldn’t feel any pain. Your teeth may feel a little strange at first, but it takes some time to get used to them. It can take up to two weeks for your bite to feel completely “normal” after veneer treatment.

Is it possible to whiten veneers?

No. The porcelain material we use for dental veneers does not react to whitening compounds in the same way that natural enamel does. This means that veneers cannot be whitened. The flip side of this is that they can’t be stained, either! Your veneers will stay the same color for as long as you have them.

So if you’re thinking about getting veneers in Rose Hill from Lux Smiles, you may want to consider getting your teeth whitened first. Once you whiten your teeth, Dr. Leonetti can choose veneers that match your bright new smile. This ensures that you get an even, consistent, and beautiful smile.

We can also help if you already have veneers but some of your natural teeth have become stained over time. Dr. Leonetti can create a custom whitening treatment that will whiten your natural teeth to the same shade as your porcelain veneers.

Can I get dental veneers if I grind my teeth at night?

Yes. Teeth grinding (bruxism) at night is quite common. If you grind your teeth at night, you can still get veneers. However, you will also need to get a night guard from Dr. Leonetti and the team at Lux Smiles. If you don’t get a night guard, you could end up damaging or breaking your veneers.

Night guards are made of durable plastic and fit perfectly over your upper teeth. They cushion and protect your teeth and your veneers from the forces of nighttime grinding. With a night guard, you can protect your investment and make sure your veneers look great for years to come.
